Visiting Dartmoor for a Short Break

if you seek solitude and wish to wander freely for miles and miles, none better, but plan your trip and pack provisions, and a lightweight tent. You are allowed to camp in the wild here, the only place one is allowed to do so, apart from the Scottish Highlands in the UK....

Haytor at Dawn, the first stop for many where you can park and walk
The River Teign flows beneath Castle Drogo at Fingle Bridge
A view overlooking Chagford, a village of great charm
The wild landscape of Widecombe in the Moor. None better.
Spinster's Rock outside Chagford
The Ring of Bells at North Bovey, a welcome watering hole

Visiting Exmoor for a Short Break

This is the Great Outdoors at its finest and most pure. Nature in all its extremes and beauty, and whether you wish to follow the hunt, spy the Red Deer, or just walk and wander, or perhaps cycle, few places can match this...

Stoke Pero for Deer Watching
Walk along the Heddon Valley, and be enchanted
The River Exe beside a circular walk from Dulverton
A destination for cyclists, walkers, mountain bikers: all roads lead to Tarr Steps...
Watersmeet where you can fish, talk and walk, and eat...

The River Barle at Simonsbath
For a traditional Exmoor homestead, none better than Emmett's Grange near Simonsbath
